My friend calls up, his Gravely just quit running, first time to use it this Spring, it starts up and goes about 25 feet and stops dead. This thing is an old commercial mower with a grass vacuum box on the back, a very useful old beast. I get there and he has been using ether and even that doesn’t work much, and he took the fuel pump apart. I was worried about putting it back together and lousing it up. We put new hoses on it and sure enough it pumped a bit of “liquid” So, it must have some dirt in the carb. I was surprised, the carb was quite clean. Finally I noticed that the liquid didn’t smell like gas, the carb was full of water. And the tank had a couple gallons in it. it has one of those gas caps with the float to tell you the gas level, and, the plastic cover over the dial was gone and this thing had funneled water right into the tank, even though it was parked in a lean-to the rain must blow in.

You better get a patent on that……and a whole crew of body guards!
Years ago, there was a guy that built a dune buggy that ran on water. His life expectancy dropped real quick. He lived fairly close, but, I never heard about him till it was too late…..
