I got disgusted after an hour and a half. the clutch slave cylinder blew out on my Chevy truck. Its right there, you can see it clearly from top and bottom. Except, there’s a big fat exhaust pipe in the road. The last mechanic used his own variety of bolts to hold it on. The new cylinder has studs installed to hold it on……metric, of course, and no nuts included. The hose swivel going into the cylinder is froze, and I buggered it. The bleeder valve in the new one was tight enough that I had to use an impact wrench on it. So, I need nuts and a hose. And then it might go together in 10 minutes……if it bleeds right.
Probably ought to buy a new master cylinder, too……

I used to do all of that stuff myself, but lately I have realized that there are guys in town who do that stuff for a living.

The whole neighborhood thinks that I am the guru for their cockamamie repair jobs. Some of them can be somewhat amusing, but, then, I don’t feel like working on my own stuff.
Yesterday, I got the firewood processor back up and running, for the landscapers. It was out of action for the most of 2 months, which is difficult to understand. What happened is they blew the seal on the hydraulic motor that runs the big chainsaw. I took the motor to the hydraulic repair shop, and he is very good with me, so, it must have took that long to get parts. It’s a simple gear motor, I woulda been looking for a new motor, but, maybe those aren’t available, either. I think the main problem is they don’t sharpen the chain often enough or good enough, and they push it too hard and it blows the seal. This ain’t the first time! At this point, I would still be looking for a replacement motor…..but, what do I know?

And, that hydraulic hose for my clutch costs more than the slave cylinder! Maybe, I should have been a bit more patient with it……..instead of putting the vise grips on it?

My girl at OReillys wanted $81, their internet said $50, and then I looked on Amazon. Summit has some for $10 and you can spend as much as you want for a fancy hose to hook it up. I have 2 trucks to scavenge off of, and for the heck of, I just might.

Lately I cringe at O'Rs pricing. I have started checking WalMart online for stuff. Turns out okay so far. That quart of 5W20 syn Persnickety had delivered to our house mighta pushed common sense a bit, but it arrived right on time in a padded up oversized box by FedX; no delivery charge. He sends WalMart parts ahead of when he is going to be here to work on one of his vehicles. As a WM stockholder I oughta chastise management for that fiasco; as a customer, ... that's different. A while back, I needed a coupla 12 inch rim tires for the Cadet; WalMart had them in in a coupla days for palatable price. A few times a neighbor of ours, a Walmart employee, has dropped off a package for us on her way home; (The visit took a while.) Had a real problem with wipers for the Taurus; Walmart name brand ones are the best ones I've found after two fiascos with O'R; granted, I didn't get top of the line from O'R. Now that time O'R offered to rent me a 1 5/16 impact socket mighta been a plus, but I bought it anyway.
But the ~$7+ dollars that I paid for a tube no bigger that my thumb of brake pad grease a little while back from AutoZone pissed me off.

This lady who works at OReilly is probably the very best parts person that I know (among the living, at least!) She has took care of me for many years, where ever she was working. 40 years ago, she and her ex husband had a couple parts places. I keep teasing her about retiring, I seriously doubt if she ever will….
