I'm repurposing an old David Bradley turdhurst into a work trailer. It's gotta be 70 years old, and a rust bucket that's taken some imagination to get the rusted, frozen bolts loose and off. One of the problems is the wheels. The tires were shot- literally- and the wheels were rusted. One with the valve hole about twice the size it should have been. I was going to weld a washer over the hole and put a couple of cases on them. Then, I found out that 14" cases don't really exist in real life anymore. So, I opted for finding a couple of 15 or 16" wheels that I can get cases for. I called several junk yards, looked on the compuker and did some digging. 5 hole wheels aren't very common on the market either.
I called a junk yard up in Pa., and he said he'd call back if he had them. I called Allstate, and they had new ones. So, I put them on my list. 15" was $55, and 16" was $88. Late morning, I hadn't heard from the scrap yard, so I ordered 2 new wheels from Allstate. Now- my catalog says 2021. The new 2024 catalog says $88 for the 15". And to add insult- another $60 to ship them. My cheap trailer just went to over $300!! Oh, well. I need them and the war department gave me her blessing. (I didn't tell her the price had gone up). So they are on the way.
I left to go out for some lunch. That price increase is around 60% since 2021 when that ass went into office. About 15 minutes up the road the junkyard in Pa. called. He had one new one and a used one for about $120 + shipping. I guess Covid or the Republican party is to blame....
