were you gonna change yer cloths? They say a mind is a terriable thing to waste and I am pretty sure my brain is a crispy critter anymore. Today as I was doing my job my cell phone went off. I didnt / couldnt answer it because I was in a 980 cat loader and to deal with a phone call at that moment would have been a very unsafe thing to do. Well that unwanted call got me to thinking about things. First thing to come to mind was phone booths. I dont think they even exsist anymore do they? Then for some reason I got to thinking about when weused to send a check every month to Bell telephone for our phone bill. Then I got to thinking about writing a check for a bill or to buy something at a store. I haven't written a check or seen someone else doing so in years. Then I got to thinking about those credit card machince that the vender would put your card on and the carbon paper and roll the thing over the top and make the reciept. Huh, the things you just dont see anymore. Well we are expecting rain and then snow for the net couple of days so I am going out to get more farwood into the hooch. That I understand.🔥

I can't talk and drive either, the only phone booth I have seen in years was on Facebook for sale. We still have a phone bill because the only way I can get Fiber Optic is through my phone company, and they will not sell me FO without a landline.

Well ....I still write checks. I am the old sob that is standing there writing a check, whipping out my license, and holding up the line at the local menards, and theisens , stores. I still pay my monthly bills with a check in the US mail. I refuse to have auto pay or direct deposit of my check. I want the check in my hand just in case I might decide to take my check to a different bank from last pay period. So far so good, I just want complete control over MY MONEY!

" "Located across a rural Arkansas highway from the Prairie Grove Civil War Battlefield State Park, about 140 miles (225 km) northwest of Little Rock, the lonely phone booth is among a dwindling number in a country increasingly reliant on cellular communications. " " " "Installed in the late 1950s, the telephone produces "about $4 a year" for the company at 25 cents per call, Parks said. " "
Snippets from a rightup about a lone T-Booth.
Oh, and I still have my Barney Fife check in the back of my billfold. SHE checks on it occasionally.

My wife tries to encourage me to get rid of checks. I still pay my bills that way, but, I do go to the post office to mail them. I had problems when 2 checks, that I dropped in the blue box outside the post office, got lost for about 6 weeks . Kubota credit got real nasty about it, demanding a transfer immediately, and said they would return the wandering check if it showed up (it did and they didn’t) they got 3 payments in a weeks time. The crop insurance company was understanding, they got a new check and then sent the first one back when it got there.
Years ago, I noticed that the farther you get from cash, the stupider you get with your spending. You will cheerfully write a check for something frivolous that you would not count out your hard earned cash for, and a credit card is even worse than check writing.
A local restaurant started charging extra for using credit cards. BRAVO! It costs them, so, why should they not pass it on? Their profit margin is thin enough without paying the card company.

Our restaurants around here are adding on a fee if you pay with a card. I ran across a lady selling tack at a swap meet. She had a bridle I wanted to buy. I pulled out my wallet of cash and started counting out the money. She got the deer in the headlights look...."we don't take cash". I said this is legal tender. She had no way to make change...I said well....you can figure it out or lose a sale....She lost the sale.

Pay phones still have a place in southern IN the Amish still use a couple at little stores but there isn’t a booth just the aluminum housing covering the phone somewhat.but me thinks the cell phone is fast becoming a way for them too just must be that one area as the ones in the north part of the state I haven’t seen any pay phones in that area. Come to think about it , it has been 4-5 years since I was down that way and seen those phones…they may be gone now

We still write checks to pay the bills. I expect that to last at least as long as I do.
I'm sure there are still a few pay phones around this area, but don't ask me to tell you where one might be.
Even the Amish carry cell phones nowadays.
