I have very little hope for the future unless somebody gives the high school boys a slap in the face and a good wake up call.
We have a grandson that goes to high school in Johnston. (Des Moines). The way he dresses is just hideous, bordering on obnoxious. He showed up for Thanksgiving wearing tight short, shorts, socks that came up over his knees, and eye shadow. His parents made the comment that nearly ALL of the boys in that school dress similarly.
Well, I had a doctor appointment yesterday at 3:30. While sitting in the waiting room I observed 3 or 4 teenage boys come in, accompanied by their mothers. ALL of those boys were wearing short pants and some kind of goofy looking plastic shoes, and hair that hadn't seen a comb or brush for several days if ever. And this is in small town Clarinda, Iowa.
When I was in school, I would not have been caught dead dressing like that, nor would the school have allowed it, nor would my parents have allowed it.

At 6 years old on September ~1, 1948 my mother put me on the school bus with short pants on. High schooler Jimmy so&so grabbed me on the inside upper leg and "showed me how a horse ate an apple". Hurt like hell times 2. I didn't get back on the bus that afternoon, but walked home with cute Barbera R. instead. Needless to say that caused a brouhaha. When Dad later saw my leg he didn't whip my butt, and to this day that's the last short pants I ever wore.

I can remember the late 60's and early 70's when the young folks said to never trust anyone over 50. I kinda bought into that for one reason or another but as the years have passed myself and others that I know dont trust anyone under 50. Funny how times and attitudes change huh?

I have never been so damned hot that I saw a need to parade around in shorts.
Funny thing though, just about any day, all winter, you will run into somebody running around in shorts. They must be really confident that their car isn’t going to fart out along the road. Normally, I wouldn’t laugh at somebody getting frostbite, but…….

As a freshman in 1970, I cut the belt loops off of my blue jeans, because if they were there I had to wear a belt. Button up shirts and hair couldn't hang over your ears or collar. One of the girl basketball players got in trouble because it was above 0, and she wore pants. Things were a little looser by the time I was a senior. Public high school.

Took the wife to the hospital this morning to have some tests done. on the way to the door there was a man leaving with shorts, no socks and tennis shoes. Clearly in his mid to late 50's. Temp was 32 degrees which isnt really that cold for us at this time of the year but Really?

I wear shorts during the summer. Have my whole life. But never wore them in cold weather like I see some guys these days.
I've seen both men and women wearing shorts in freezing weather over the last few years. Doesn't make sense to me.
We lucky Pennsylvanians have a United States Senator who wears shorts and a hooded sweatshirt year-round. He also advocates legalizing marijuana for everybody and releasing convicted murders from prison too.
Aren't we lucky?

It was rainy and cool last Thursday, so I put on a pair of denim jeans. I think that's the first time I've had long pants on, other than going to church, since the beginning of January. Most days, though are above 60* and the sunlight is hitting at a higher angle and so feels warmer.

Back before the Gulf war, my brother dragged his son- complete with long hair, flip flops and bell bottoms that were 2" too long- down to the Marine recruiter and sent his ass off to PI. He came back after two tours in Iraq, got a degree, and went to work at the State Department. Now, he's up at the UN making some obscene money.
I dragged my grandson down to the recruiting office when he graduated and sent him to PI, and he will start a fire academy in June, and continue being in the Marines.
There still is an answer for these young bucks, and it should be reinstating the draft.....
