Okay. Loaded up all 4 of my empty cutting torch tanks and went to town. $260 to exchange them for FULL tanks.
Truck died on the way out of town and would not start. Another $260 for a service call and a NEW battery.
I had kind of planned on about one hour for that little errand. 3 hours later we are back home.
The old battery gave NO warning whatsoever.

Didn't you have battery issues some time back? I have never got over 3 years out a battery in newer vehicles, especially if they sit some. The newer stuff has a parisetic draw that will kill a battery in about 6 weeks. Thanks fer the reminder tho, Mine is about 3 so I better test is pretty soon. The worst battery I ever had was an Interstate, about 11 months & their pro-rate was about 80% of new, so I went to the NAPA blue batteries & so far they are holding up. I think I have about 11 things here with engines & batteries!

I think I have about 11 things here with engines & batteries! This truck is my 2001 Chevy one ton. It just sets for L-O-N-G periods, so I keep a battery maintainer on it. The truck started just fine at home, and started again just fine after getting the welding tanks. ALL the gauges indicated everything was fine, but it died at a stop sign 3/4 mile later, and the battery was DEAD.
Yes, we had battery troubles not too long ago with my wifes truck. It made it all the way home and then didn't have enough juice to even unlock the doors. It took a trip to town on a flatbed. The Chevy dealer replaced the battery and paid for the tow truck. NO cost to us.

How old was the battery???
I have never tried a maintainer but many people swear by them.
Most of my tractors & welder have battery disconnects on them and the batteries stay fully charged after sitting all winter.
Most of my other stuff runs at least twice a month, so no issues there.
The old M was charging a little funky last fall & that big 6 volt is over 5 years old so I may be replacing that.

All My Old Rode Warriors are on Battery Maintainers. Not Much point in buying more than a 36 month battery these days, all three Autos are on year six with the maintainers. And they are not corroded.
Most batteries are shaking apart failed plates and/or sulfating from low state of charge.

Maybe even older.
