Have any of you had trouble locating garden seed for spring local where you live. The reason I ask is several well established seed stores in our area have closed in the last few years. I heard of the most recent closing just today and the reason I was told was lack of seed availability. They simply could not get the seed to sell. I know some seed has been hard to find for the last few years but to have them close seems a bit much. I had one guy claim the fed gov was behind it to limit our ability to produce our own food. That seems a stretch but was wondering what its like in different areas. I have some and still have time to search more here.

I hear similar comments around here. My actual knowledge on the seed situation would rattle around in a thimble, but in general I suspect seed availability is just one of the many necessary mundane products that are lost in the craze to the Internet and iPhone. Our replacement skewed generation isn't interested; just buy it from China; after all, that's what we taught them. There most certainly are exceptions: May they prosper!

AS we Speak the Washington Wizards are trying to get a Bill through on how to do away with Independent Contractors. To change the way we do business, like becoming an Employee instead. To Do away with Folks being a Lonewolf self-employed Plumber or cabinet maker, A Gardener, Owner Operator...Yes, they are up to no good 24/7 to Run your life or see to it you die trying to push back.
Seed has been hoarded by the Bunker Boys and bought up by guys that don't want their GMO Fields contaminated by Joe-Bob's home Feed Store Seed.

Haven't had any problem finding seeds. Do catalog seeds for the farm. Harris, Shumways, Gurneys are some of the catalogs. Seed prices are up this year, but was able to get anything that we needed. Greenhouse seeds start Monday for peppers etc.

The local hardware here has a pretty good selection of seeds every year but I mostly order from Jung or Gurney.

No problem with seeds around here. But the fact that seeds can be with held or become unavailable to the public is just another reason why we try to grow hierloom varieties of some vegitables. Save the seeds and plant the next year. Taste on the old fashioned hierloom varieties is much better than those consumer pretty hy bred crap any ways IMO.

I ordered some stuff from gurneys today. Rather do it local but the places are just going away it seems. As has been said the prices are up. Wonder what plants will cost this spring, last fall they were $7 for a 6 pack. Glad to get them even at that. I had started and set out all I needed from seed. Some thing clipped all or almost all off flush with the dirt and left them lay. The ones I got at the store I scattered sevin dust around them and only lost 2-3.
