Helped pull the transmission out of another quarries loader yesterday. The guy running it backed over a Boulder. HOle is the same size as a basketball. Guess they shouldnt have removed the skid plate years ago.

Yeah…….. Maybe there was some reason to have a skid plate. I maybe needed a skid plate on a Ford 860. I was dragging logs with it, and straddled a stump, and punched a hole in th transmission. I patched it, BUT, it looks good, BUT it won’t take much of a stump to do that again!

I don't think that is classified as an "oops", but more like an "awchit". 😱

The thing that made me smile about the whole thing is that it wasnt the poor old dumb loader operator that did it. It was a supervisor. The real kicker was that to do the task he was tryoing to do he had a D6 and a D7 dozer and a 345 exavator on site that were all more fitting to use. Just cuz a guys in charge dont make him smarter.

Believe it or not, there are still a few guys out there that see these repairs as child's play. I worked with a couple of them years ago. They didn't fear much at all except the Rolling pin in the old lady's kitchen drawer.
Bad Deal though, losing a good Loader to work with sucks for everyone and that is a big ass hole...

My welding teacher in school could puddle weld aluminum similar to that with just little stripes of shear cut aluminum stripes for "rods". He did grow up in a family welding/manufacturing shop. Got his college degree after he came back from WWII. He was a neighbor and super nice friend, and he graciously passed me. 😒

WE had a Cat track loader on a job site, the boss decided he was going to play around on it. He picked up a bolder spun around and dropped it. It fit perfectly in the bed of a company Chevy Luv were were driving back and forth to the shop every day. The rock was about 5 foot X 5 foot and the bed was about 1 foot high on the sides. The next day the boss decided to play some more and the engine locked up because he did not think he needed to check the oil,he was wrong! I think the new Cat engine was over 5 grand 35 years ago,the labor was cheap,it was me.

5k won’t pay for a particular filter on a 950K cat loader, the price installed was close to 8k 3 years ago
