Apparently I think I need more toys, so I'm thinking about a scope for my relatively new Ruger PC carbine. I've narrowed down my choices for the scope to one that won't break the bank, but apparently the mounting rings are sold separately and I don't understand the height thing, low, medium, or high.
Can any of you guys shed some light on such matters?

The bigger diameter the scope the taller the rings.

Thank you! I figured there would be a chart somewhere, but I couldn't find it.

Okay. I bought the Simmons 3-9x32 and a set of Leupold mounting rings. Got the scope mounted on the Ruger PC carbine, but that's it. I need a less windy day for sighting it in.

Did you put finger nail polish on the screws? I will let you and everyone else ask why I would ask such a question and answer later.

Had to do the nail polish trick on both lever action rifles to keep the rear sight in place. It works.

Finally got around to sighting it in. Took considerable more adjustments than what I had anticipated, but finally was able to consistently hit targets at 25 yards, 50 yards, and 80 yards.
But I didn't like how it was positioned on the rifle. It was too far to the rear and I had trouble getting a clean view, so I took care of that. Moved the scope as far forward as possible and now I have it where I want it.
But now I get to go through the whole sighting in process all over again.

Well it should be somewhat close? Windage appears to have not changed. At least not very much. Elevation needs dialed in again.

Okay. Another session, 2 more 17 round mags, and it is now more accurate than I am. No problem hitting 10" round targets at 80 yards, except when I wobble.

You make me feel lazy,I had the rear site broken while in the gun case. I had it replaced and it's still off. I think it's been 10 years since it was shot. 30-30 Winchester. When I first knew something was wrong was when I moved all the way down to the 25 yard target, and came up four feet low and to the left. I tipped up the case and two small pieces fell out.The site is two pieces made in the shape of a V bolted together, one broke and half.

The original sights on this Ruger were off so far that I could hit only the 10 yard target. I have no idea as to where all those other bullits ended up.
