I was starting to get worried about getting another man at work for this season. Put adds in several different places for help wanted and was not getting any thing but a couple of clowns that were just tryin to flim flam me thinking they could get big bucks for being smooth talkers or like the one guy who said right out he just needed a legitimate pay check for a month or two so he could settle a court case to his benefit and then he would probably quit. ( At least he was honest about it but really?) So, with things getting ready to break around here and not wanting just myself and my one regular guy to have to shoulder the entire labor burden the entire year, this morning whilst conversing to my maker I added a small plea for something to come along no matter what it was. Low and behold around 8:30 this morning a young 21 year old strapping young fella came in with an application in hand already filled out. We spoke briefly and I told him I would get back to him latter today. I called him at 4 and told him if he wanted the job it was his. He said "perfect. see you Monday morning." Hopefully this will be the prayer answered. As to the first for me deal, well, the young man is a black kid that was raised and schooled not to far from were I live out in the sticks. Not the urban variety thugster I see every day in Waterloo. In all my years I have NEVER had a young black man come in to the nursery looking for work! NEVER! Allrighty, enough of that.

Ya know, I can remember a time when I cast a wary eye at anyone that was dark. I actually left a Razorback football game when a black guy with a white girl sat in front of me. Now days the only thing I notice is their work ethic and honesty. As far as interracial relationships....as long as it's a guy and a gal and they're happy, it ain't none of my business. Funny how things change. I hope your new hand works out well and maybe he can inspire the others to pick up the pace so you can slow down some. God knows you deserve it.

A strong work ethic has more to do with where they came from and how they were raised than anything else, including race or color of skin. If that kid is a country boy, I think he'll probably work out just fine.
