... this little backwoods State amazes and pleases me. In the midst of all the ongoing major College protest trauma ongoing in the US, the University of Arkansas announced the startup of Forklift driver classes at one of its branches due to a statewide need.

The schools mostly want to teach nice clean professions and a lot of cultural stuff that you only learn long enough to pass a class. They seem to look down on occupations that requires physical labor. They need to wise up and provide useable instruction. Of course, most of your professors aren’t qualified for that.
In my mind, student loans should be outlawed, or, at least, if they sell you a worthless education, you could go bankrupt on the school. As it is, they teach things that there really is no jobs available to pay for said education. And they have no reason to improve, because uncle Biden is using taxpayer money to pay these needless debts off.

Now, the U of AR doesn't come out real clean regarding student "mob" activity at times. The SEC continues to threaten and fine the UofAr big dollars because it has become a tradition for the student crowd to mob the court after the Hogs win a big basketball game. The Admin threatens dastardly actions if they don't stop because it costs big bucks to pay the fine. The admin doesn't have a lot of luck with that threat since they just set the new coach's pay at 7 million a year for a 5 year contract; plus a similar amount for a couple of assistant coaches. Some of the perpetrators' families are also big dollar donors to the program. ... and after all, it is an Arkansas court.

Me being a graduate from a different type of school (Hard Knocks University) I often wonder just how much time some of these sports stars with a full ride actually spend in a class room.

I sincerely doubt they get anything of value from their “education” I have even heard of some of these college graduates being functionally illiterate. Of course, I really doubt the value of most college diplomas. I went to college, most of the classes were a monumental waste of time and money. A few weeks of on the job training or an apprenticeship would give better results.

I was hiring a new employee one time. Coupla my young guys asked me what I looked for and why was a College degree required. I said a good College record showed me that 1) they had at least worked and accomplished a goal, and 2) that they could put up with bullshit like they'd have to on this job. ( It was a hard hitting Computer job.).
I blew it that time and ended up later "encouraging" my new hire to seek opportunities elsewhere. That other crew is still in the discipline setting the world on fire. I'm sure glad I got outta their way before they found me out.

I am remiss in not learning more about the new "CTE" school that has been in operation now for 2/3 years. It sits about one mile North of me. Public Schools from 2 or 3 Counties participate. CTE stands for career technical education I think. Articles often appear featuring activities ongoing there. Local companies aided in its founding and supply the students with activities. A recent posting showed the students customizing several large electric transformers for a local company. It seems to be meeting it intended goals and gets a lot of good press. I voted for it.

My father went to the 8th grade 3 years, and probably got a good education in so doing. It was a one room school, he got tutored at high school level, my grandfather was school board president, and he thought it was a good idea that dad and his younger brother could walk the 4 miles to the big city school together that way. The high school teachers just assumed he was dumb and he soon dropped out, country kids were all assumed stupid and treated as such. And walking 4 miles on dirt roads , crossing the creek, and coming in filthy and wet reinforced that idea.. There was a school bus, but, since it was only 4 miles he didn’t get to ride it.

My dad dropped out of school at 16 in 1923. He had finished 6th grade. He was the oldest son so he had to help his dad farm-with horses. He only went to school in the coldest part of the winter.
