On the noon news, they are showing the big highways absolutely full going north towards the area of totality, and nobody going south. One of our boys left early this morning for North Carolina, and he experienced light traffic going south and heavy on the other side of the road. It’s a good day to stay home!

NO traffic at all going by here, but then that is not unusual.

I'm headed out to my driveway to prepare for the event. Two folding chairs. SHE has the welding helmet fitted. 12:30 Central.

I have fiddled with the helmet. It should be a pretty decent auto darkening helmet, but, I am getting kind of a shimmer with it. The cheapo eclipse glasses are considerably better.
Makes me wonder if the helmet could be not quite so good for welding, also?

I added a #10 filter in the cheater slot, set at 13 was still real bright, now backed the hood down to 10 with the 10 cheater in place.
Does that make it #20?

Mine is a rarely used Hobart with what I thought was a 14, but coulda been 13. Worked great. 2:27PM here and there is just a small ear left of the dark. My neck hurts. Quite an experience.

Curiosity got the better of us when it got kind dark outside so I grabbed a couple of welding helmets and we had a look. One helmet is an auto-darkening, set for the welding project I completed just a couple of weeks ago, and the other helmet is just a standard issue welding helmet. Both worked just fine.

Big yawn here. Got kinda hazy looking and then back to normal. I was busy in my loader anyway so I just didnt pay much attention. But then I always figured if I really want to blot out the rays of the sun I could closemy eyes, put my head betwixed my knees and kiss my ass goodbye.
